of Nathan 4 Edson (#76) and Mary Sprague, born in 1739, Bridgewater, Mass., married
there, Sept. 2, 1766, Mary Hall, born in 1740, probably at Raynham, Mass., daughter
of Mrs. Anna (Griffin) Hall. He died Aug. 16, 1825, Smith-field, Madison Co.,
N. Y. She died Dec. 12, 1838, Stockbridge, N. Y Nathan Edson was the first settler
of Stockbridge, Madison Co., coming there from New Hampshire in 1791. He was
a farmer, and had operated mills on the Swift River at Petersham, Worcester Co.,
Mass., where his children were born. He served in the French and Indian War in
1756. He enlisted May 6, 1761, under Capt. Lem-uel Dunbar of Bridgewater, serving
until Dec. 7. He served again in the same company, Mar. 23-Nov. 20, 1762. He
was a Sergeant in the Revolutionary War, being a Minute Man at the Battle of
Lexington, serving at the Battle of Bunker Hill, in the Siege of Boston, and
on some later occasions.
George Thomas Edson (#150-267) published, in 1926, a 48-page book, "Nathan
Edson and His Descendants, " which gives more detail in regard to his life.

in the 164th Regiment, N.Y. Militia, commanded by W. L. Churchill, for three
months, in the War of 1812, being honorably discharged in April, 1814, near
